The main indicators include bubble point pore size, maximum particle retention size, and initial filtrate turbidity (i.e., the allowable solid content in the filtrate). Bubble point pore size is typically represented by two metrics: maximum bubble point pore size and boiling bubble point pore size. Generally, the maximum bubble point pore size is about 2 to 4 times the size of the largest particle that can be retained.
For filtration processes involving high-concentration materials with lower precision requirements, the maximum particle passage size of the selected filter cloth should not significantly exceed the size of the particles to be retained. Otherwise, a "short-circuit" effect may occur, where large particles escape filtration. On the other hand, in high-precision filtration applications—especially when dealing with thin slurries or processes where no filter cake is formed—the maximum particle passage size of the filter cloth must be equal to or smaller than the size of the particles that need to be captured to ensure effective separation.
Additionally, pore uniformity is another important factor in evaluating filtration performance. This can be assessed by the ratio of boiling bubble pore size to maximum bubble pore size. The closer this ratio is to 1, the more uniform the pores, resulting in greater filtration stability.
